RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Alan Lescano and David Correa da Fonseca scored goals in each half as Vasco da Gama allayed relegation fears with a 2-1 win at Botafogo in Brazil's Serie A on Wednesday.
Lescano put the visitors ahead by combining with Bruno Duarte on the counterattack before finishing clinically into the top-left corner.
Correa da Fonseca doubled the advantage when he latched onto Facundo Colidio's through ball and fired a long-range effort past goalkeeper Gabriel Batista.
Former Manchester United defender Alex Telles pulled a goal back with a dipping free kick, but the visitors held on to secure their ninth win of the campaign. The result leaves Vasco 14th in the 20-team standings with 34 points, a point behind 13th-placed Botafogo.
Elsewhere in Brazil's top flight on Wednesday, Vitoria cruised to a 4-0 home win over Chapecoense, Gremio drew 1-1 at Remo, Bragantino was held to a 1-1 home draw by Mirassol, and Internacional prevailed 2-1 at home to Corinthians. ■
