ISLAMABAD, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday pledged to strengthen the country's disaster preparedness through advanced technology and early warning systems, as Pakistan observed the 21st National Resilience Day.
Sharif said the government, through the National Disaster Management Authority, is integrating advanced technologies and more efficient early warning systems supported by data-based analytics into the national disaster response, reaffirming the resolve to move "from reaction to anticipation" in dealing with natural disasters.
The day marks the anniversary of the 2005 earthquake that caused massive loss of life and property, and pays tribute to the victims as well as the courageous collective response in that tragic hour, he said in a message.
He reaffirmed the government's commitment to anticipating risks before they become disasters, minimizing losses, and protecting lives and livelihoods while ensuring faster and more resilient recovery and reconstruction. ■
