CANBERRA, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Government departments in Australia's Northern Territory (NT) have been hit by a network outage affecting telephone and digital services.
The outage, impacting services including police, hospitals, schools and courts, was reported in the early hours of Thursday morning.
NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services said in a statement that technical teams were working to restore full connectivity.
It said Triple Zero, Australia's main emergency number, remained operational but should only be used for life-threatening emergencies or active crimes in progress.
The non-emergency police number was experiencing technical disruptions, with people urged to attend police stations for non-life-threatening matters.
NT Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Terry Zhang told local radio that the incident was an internal network issue related to a data server.
"I'm pretty confident based on the information I have that it's not a hack," he said. ■
