RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazil head coach Fernando Diniz has been sacked as manager of Corinthians after six months in charge, the Brazilian club said on Wednesday.
The announcement followed a 2-1 defeat at Internacional, a result that left Corinthians 16th in the 20-team Brazilian Serie A standings.
The Sao Paulo-based club has now lost seven straight games in Brazil's top flight and is just one point clear of the relegation zone with nine games left in the season.
Diniz led Corinthians to 13 wins, eight draws and 12 losses after replacing Dorival Junior in April.
The 52-year-old, who made 50 appearances for Corinthians as a player in 1997 and 1998, was Brazil's national team manager from July 2023 to January 2024. ■
