ACCRA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Ghana is stepping up efforts to return to Olympic football for the first time since 2004, the Ghana Olympic Committee said Tuesday.

Officials from the GOC and the Ghana Football Association met to discuss qualification pathways for the men's under-23 and senior women's teams as they pursue places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

GOC President Richard Akpokavie said the meeting was necessary given the committee's ambition to have Ghana represented in football at the Olympics.

"The last time football was at the Olympics was in the 2004 Athens Games; therefore, we had to meet to see possible collaboration for our mutual benefits," he said.

Akpokavie added that the GOC would support both teams throughout their qualification campaigns.

GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo said close cooperation with the GOC, which oversees Ghana's participation in the Olympics, would be important in the country's efforts to qualify. ■
