ADEN, Yemen, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi group said Wednesday that it launched ballistic missiles targeting Saudi military supplies at a camp near Aden International Airport, hours after the Yemeni government accused the group of attacking the civilian airport and forcing a passenger flight to divert.

The missiles struck newly-arrived Saudi military supplies at Badr Camp, located next to the airport in the southern port city of Aden, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said in a statement on the social platform X.

Sarea said the strike caused casualties among Saudi officers without providing specific figures, while warning Saudi Arabia against using Aden International Airport for military purposes.

There was no immediate confirmation from Saudi Arabia.

The Houthi group said earlier in the day that it had launched a new wave of ballistic missile and drone attacks targeting airports and military installations across Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi-led coalition said its air defenses intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile north of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

The cross-border attacks came amid intensified fighting between the Houthis and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces, particularly near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait. Saudi forces have stepped up air operations, while the Houthis have increased missile and drone strikes inside Saudi Arabia.

Yemen's conflict began in late 2014, when the Houthis seized Sanaa and much of northern Yemen. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government, now based in Aden. ■
