CANBERRA, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Australian Defense Force has suspended the use of a troop carrier that was involved in a fatal rollover during a training exercise in the Northern Territory (NT) on Monday, Chief of Army Susan Coyle said on Wednesday.

Australian Army Corporal Brendan Hannam, aged 28, died and five other soldiers were injured when a vehicle rolled at the Mount Bundey Training Area in the NT on Monday.

Coyle confirmed that the vehicle was a Supacat High Mobility Transporter and that Hannam was not driving at the time of the incident.

"The vehicle is used in the first brigade, and it's also used in our special forces units," she told reporters.

"We've paused operational use of that vehicle until the investigation has commenced to understand what, if anything, may be impacted."

She said that there had not been any previous incidents involving the vehicle and that pausing its use was standard procedure for major accidents.

The five soldiers who were injured in the rollover were all airlifted to hospital on Monday night, including two in critical condition. Two of the five remained in hospital on Wednesday.

Defense Minister Richard Marles said on Wednesday that there would be a series of investigations into the rollover. ■
