BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Fabricio Perez scored twice as Estudiantes cruised to a 3-0 home win over Gimnasia Mendoza in Argentina's Clausura tournament on Monday.
It took until the 83rd minute for Estudiantes to take the lead courtesy of an Edwuin Cetre penalty after Guido Carrillo was brought down by Diego Mondino.
Perez doubled the lead seven minutes later by finishing clinically on the counterattack and the 20-year-old put the result beyond doubt with a stoppage-time header following Gaston Benedetti's cross.
The visitors had just two shots on target en route to their fourth loss of the campaign.
Estudiantes is now ninth in the 15-team Zone A standings with 13 points, four behind seventh-placed Gimnasia.
Elsewhere in Argentina's top flight on Monday, Deportivo Riestra drew 1-1 at home to Central Cordoba, and Velez Sarsfield was held to a 2-2 home draw by Platense. ■
