MADRID, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Spain has extended temporary border checks on travelers arriving from Italy by air and sea for another 15 days, until Oct. 22, according to an Interior Ministry order published in the Official State Gazette on Tuesday.
The extension will run from Oct. 8 to Oct. 22. It is the third extension of the checks, which were first introduced on Aug. 8.
The order, signed by Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska on Oct. 1, said the reasons for the measure, including serious threats to public order and internal security, remained in place.
Spain introduced the checks in response to Italy's decision to impose controls on arrivals from Spain following a large influx of migrants into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on July 30 and 31. Italy has since extended its controls, prompting reciprocal measures by Spain. ■
