GENEVA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Tuesday released a handbook for potential hosts of the 2036 Olympic Games, outlining the requirements for Interested Parties at each stage of the selection process.
Germany, Hungary, India, Qatar, South Korea, South Africa and Türkiye are the Interested Parties currently in Continuous Dialogue with the IOC over hosting the 2036 Games. The IOC confirmed that a number of National Olympic Committees (NOCs) are also holding noncommittal talks with it about hosting future Games beyond 2036.
According to the IOC, the Interested Parties have been invited to present their projects to the Future Host Commission in November. As a result, no additional Interested Parties will be considered for 2036 after October 31, 2026. The IOC Executive Board (EB) will open the 2036 Strategic Dialogue in March 2027.
Following the submission of legal and financial guarantees by the Interested Parties and site visits, the EB will open a Targeted Dialogue with a select number of Preferred Hosts. IOC members will elect the host of the 2036 Games at an IOC Session in mid-2029, the IOC announced.
The Interested Parties are expected to address a number of technical factors in their projects, including the venue masterplan and athlete experience, funding strategy, political and public support, Games delivery capabilities, and a legacy strategy aimed at creating long-term benefits for host communities, the IOC said.
IOC President Kirsty Coventry said, "Wherever the Games take place, one thing must never change: athletes have to be at the heart of everything we do. As an athlete, you spend years working to make your Olympic dream come true. The experience you have when you finally reach the Olympic Games stays with you for the rest of your life. That is why, for every future host, delivering the best possible experience for the athletes must always be the starting point." ■
