KABUL -- Afghan power company, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), announced on Saturday that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Tajikistan's Pamir Energy Company to supply electricity to border districts in northern Badakhshan province.

Implementation of the agreement is expected to open avenues for expanded joint initiatives, the modernization of electricity networks, and the delivery of improved power services to communities across Badakhshan, DABS said in a statement. (Afghanistan-Power Deal)

TOKYO -- A 20-year-old U.S. Marine stationed in Japan's southernmost prefecture of Okinawa was arrested by local police on Sunday on suspicion of robbing and murdering a woman, local media reported.

The suspect, named Devin Ballard, is stationed at U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Okinawa. He is suspected of killing a 39-year-old local woman and taking her wallet and backpack in the early hours of Saturday at a hotel in Naha, Kyodo News reported, citing Okinawa prefectural police. COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's expenditure on fuel imports rose sharply during the first eight months of 2026, reaching 4.07 billion U.S. dollars, according to a report by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka dated Sept. 30, local media reported Sunday.
