KABUL, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- A total of 10 miners trapped inside a gold mine in northern Afghanistan's Takhar province following a tunnel collapse were safely rescued on Thursday afternoon, according to the provincial police spokesman.
The workers were extracting ore inside a tunnel at a mine in Chah Ab district when the structure suddenly gave way on Wednesday morning, trapping them underground, the spokesman said.
A rescue team was immediately deployed to the site, said the official, adding that community members and local police joined the operation, working for more than 34 hours before extracting all 10 miners unharmed. ■
