ISLAMABAD, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- A policeman was killed and another wounded in a terrorist attack in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, police said.
According to the police, unidentified attackers targeted police personnel deployed outside a hospital in Tank district of the province.
The assailants opened fire on the policemen and threw a hand grenade at them near the hospital's main entrance before escaping from the area, said the police.
An additional police contingent was subsequently dispatched to the site, and a search operation was launched in the surrounding areas to locate the attackers, police said.
Authorities said an investigation into the incident was underway, while details regarding the motive and identities of the assailants were not immediately known.
The attack followed another incident earlier this week in Tank district, where three traffic policemen were killed after unknown gunmen opened fire on their mobile patrol vehicle in the Wazirabad Bazaar area of the district. ■
