RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta has undergone successful surgery to repair a fracture in his left wrist, the Brazilian club said on Thursday.
The 32-year-old sustained the injury while playing for Uruguay in its 4-1 friendly win over South Korea in Seoul on Monday.
"He will remain in the hospital under observation during the afternoon, with discharge expected later tonight, provided his clinical progress remains positive," Flamengo said in a social media post.
It did not provide a timeframe for his recovery, but local media said the playmaker would be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
De Arrascaeta has made 389 appearances for Flamengo, scoring 107 goals and providing 119 assists, following his 2019 move from Cruzeiro. ■
