ISLAMABAD, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani security forces killed seven militants in an intelligence-based operation in the North Waziristan district of the country's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, security sources told Xinhua.
The operation was carried out in the Eidak village in the Mir Ali area of the district as part of Pakistan's ongoing counterterrorism campaign, the sources said.
Security personnel tracked the militants before launching a targeted operation against their positions, killing seven militants and destroying several hideouts, according to the sources.
The operation also disrupted the militants' ability to operate in the area, said the sources, adding that the slain terrorists belonged to a banned terrorist group operating with foreign support.
Pakistan's security forces remain committed to eliminating militancy and restoring lasting peace through continued intelligence-based operations, the sources said.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the security forces for the successful operation, describing the personnel as national heroes whose actions had helped foil militant plans.
The minister also praised the professionalism of the troops in carrying out the operation against the militants. ■
