NAGOYA, Japan, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's Wang Xiyu defeated compatriot Zhang Shuai in straight sets to win the women's singles gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games here on Friday, extending China's winning streak in the event to six consecutive editions.
Wang dominated the opening set, winning all of her first-serve points compared with 50 percent for Zhang. The 37-year-old Zhang, who struggled with unforced errors, was broken twice as Wang took the set 6-2.
Zhang continued to struggle in the second set, holding serve just once as Wang cruised to a 6-1 victory to seal the gold medal.
In the semifinals, Wang came from behind to defeat top-seeded Philippine rising star Alexandra Eala 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
With her victory, Wang also secured a berth in the women's singles event at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. ■
