LONDON, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Manchester City confirmed on Friday that it has lodged an appeal against a ruling by an independent commission that found the club guilty of all charges relating to alleged breaches of the Premier League's financial regulations.

In a brief statement, Manchester City said the commission's ruling contained "clear material errors, of law, principle and fact" and was "unsafe."

The club maintained its innocence and said it had submitted "a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence" on Thursday evening in support of its position on all the issues concerned.

The Football Association (FA), the governing body of English football, said on Friday that the ruling had "significant implications for the integrity of the game."

"We are carefully considering the decision and its implications and will take action where appropriate," the FA said in a statement.

The FA added that it would not comment further at this stage because proceedings between the Premier League and Manchester City remain ongoing, but said it would continue to monitor developments closely.

The Premier League confirmed on Tuesday that Manchester City had been found guilty of all charges relating to breaches of its financial regulations between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.

Among the independent commission's findings were that Manchester City had arranged what it described as "sham contracts" with a number of commercial partners as part of a scheme to disguise more than 830 million pounds in undisclosed funding. ■
