MADRID, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Villarreal's consecutive wins before the ongoing international break have eased the pressure on coach Inigo Perez after his side began the season with a five-match winless run.
Perez was brought in to replace Marcelino Garcia Toral over the summer, with the former Rayo Vallecano coach signing a three-year contract.
However, Villarreal's slow start to the campaign, which saw the team concede eight goals in its first four league matches, put Perez under pressure.
He responded by changing goalkeepers, with Hungary international Peter Gulacsi replacing Luiz Junior. The veteran goalkeeper has since helped bring greater stability to Villarreal's defense.
"In my first two matches, I had a lot of work to do, but I enjoyed the last two games," Gulacsi told reporters Thursday.
He said his job was about more than "just making saves; it's organizing the defense and preventing opponents from creating chances."
"I've been here for two months and have enjoyed every second. It's a huge change in terms of football, but now I'm playing, and it's all positive," added the former Liverpool and RB Leipzig goalkeeper, who joined Villarreal this summer.
Gulacsi also discussed working with Perez, who led Rayo Vallecano to the UEFA Conference League final last season.
"He's a coach who wants to dominate matches, control them, and attack as high up the pitch as possible and for us to play like a big team," Gulacsi said.
"Our goal is to achieve that, but also to be more consistent. We've managed it in recent games and we're making progress," he added.
Gulacsi said his next objective is to keep a clean sheet. ■
