DAMASCUS, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were killed and four others wounded on Wednesday when unidentified assailants attacked a vehicle in Syria's central Homs province, state news agency SANA reported.
The attack targeted the vehicle while it was crossing the Masyaf Bridge in the Homs countryside, SANA said, without immediately providing details about the attackers' identities or motives.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, said the vehicle belonged to the Al-Matin company and was carrying engineers and workers when it came under attack on the bridge near the Houla area.
The Observatory initially reported several deaths and injuries, saying the wounded were transferred to medical facilities for treatment. Security forces were deployed to the area following the attack and began procedures at the scene, it added.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the type of weapon used remained unclear as of Wednesday evening.
Al-Matin is a Homs-based industrial group whose operations include manufacturing and engineering-related activities. The company lists its facilities in the Hassia Industrial City and says it employs around 700 employees across engineering, technical, and production departments.
The incident comes amid continuing security challenges in parts of central Syria, where sporadic killings, armed attacks, and other security incidents have been reported in recent months. ■
