MADRID, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio is expected to be sidelined for between two and three months after undergoing surgery on a long-standing injury, the club confirmed Thursday.
"Our player Raul Asencio successfully underwent surgery today for a stress fracture in his right tibia," the club said in a statement.
Real Madrid added that the operation was supervised by the club's medical services and that Asencio would begin his recovery in the coming days.
Asencio has been sidelined with the injury since the summer and has yet to play this season.
There was better news for Real Madrid on the training ground, with Brazilian defender Eder Militao returning to full training.
Militao has not played since April 28 after rupturing a tendon in the back of his left leg.
The Brazilian underwent surgery and missed the World Cup as a result. He has gradually increased his workload since the start of the season and is expected to return to action sometime in October. ■
