NAGOYA, Japan, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Japan swept all three track cycling gold medals on offer at the 2026 Asian Games on Thursday, while China claimed one silver and two bronze medals.

In the women's Madison final, Japan took gold ahead of Hong Kong, China, while China's Gong Xianbing and Chen Ning finished third after losing ground to the leading group midway through the race. The Chinese pair finished just one point behind the silver medalists.

"We gave it everything today, but we still need to improve technically. We will continue to train hard and work on our coordination," Chen said.

In the men's sprint, Japan's Kaiya Ota successfully defended his Asian Games title, beating China's Li Zhiwei in the final. Malaysia's Mohd Azizulhasni Awang took bronze, while China's Xie Han finished eighth.

"Rather than focusing on beating my opponents, I focused more on overcoming myself first. Today, I didn't let my opponents dictate the pace of the race and was able to make the most of my strengths," Ota said.

Japan also took gold in the men's omnium, with Kanta Umezawa winning the four-event competition with 193 points.

Hong Kong, China's Chu Tsun Wai finished second, 27 points behind Umezawa, while China's Wu Junjie claimed bronze.

The omnium consisted of the scratch race, tempo race, elimination race and points race.

Track cycling concludes on Friday, with gold medals to be decided in the men's Madison, men's keirin, women's omnium and women's sprint. ■
