JAKARTA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's trade surplus widened to 3.55 billion U.S. dollars in August, driven by a strong surplus in non-oil and gas trade, Statistics Indonesia said on Thursday.
Non-oil and gas trade recorded a surplus of 6.09 billion dollars, led by animal and vegetable fats and oils, mineral fuels, and iron and steel, said Ateng Hartono, the agency's deputy for distribution and services statistics.
Meanwhile, oil and gas trade posted a 2.54-billion-dollar deficit, mainly due to imports of refined petroleum products and crude oil.
For the January-August period, Indonesia recorded an overall trade surplus of 7.25 billion dollars. ■
