BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.31 percent to 3,842.19 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.11 percent lower at 12,887.62 points.
Turnover of stocks covered by these two indices totaled about 1.44 trillion yuan (around 213.5 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.41 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the vaccine, biological products, and pharmaceutical sectors led the gains, while those in the semiconductor and electronic chemicals were among the biggest decliners.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.23 percent to close at 3,135.28 points Wednesday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1.81 percent lower at 1,815.22 points on Wednesday. ■
