VIENNA, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Austria's economy returned to growth in 2025 after contracting for two consecutive years, with real gross domestic product (GDP) rising 0.7 percent from a year earlier, Statistics Austria said on Wednesday.
"In 2025, the Austrian economy returned to modest growth," said Manuela Lenk, director general (statistics) of Statistics Austria. She noted that the services sector was the main driver of the recovery, while gross fixed capital formation and final consumption expenditure were key contributors on the expenditure side.
At current prices, Austria's GDP reached 518.2 billion euros (about 588.3 billion U.S. dollars) in 2025, equivalent to a nominal GDP of 56,298 euros (63,929.48 dollars) per capita.
The services sector recorded real growth of 1.6 percent in gross value added, making it the main contributor to overall economic growth. Information and communication services grew 2.3 percent, while public administration, education and health services increased 2.2 percent.
The industrial sector, however, continued to face challenges. Gross value added in industry declined by 1.8 percent in 2025.
On the expenditure side, household and government final consumption expenditure increased 0.9 percent in real terms. Gross fixed capital formation was another major driver of growth, rising 4.3 percent in real terms in 2025 after declining for two consecutive years. ■
