BERLIN, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on Wednesday issued a Conflict Zone Information Bulletin advising air operators to avoid parts of Saudi airspace due to heightened regional security risks.
According to the bulletin, effective through Nov. 16, airlines are recommended not to operate at any flight levels within a designated area along the boundary of the Jeddah Flight Information Region (FIR Jeddah).
The agency also advised operators to exercise caution when flying in the remainder of the Jeddah FIR and to maintain high-level contingency planning.
EASA cited rising risks of misidentification of civil aircraft, missile and drone overflights, interception activity and falling debris following an increase in Houthi attacks targeting infrastructure deep inside Saudi territory.
As a consequence of the military conflict between the United States and Iran, the regional security situation remains highly volatile, said the bulletin. ■
