NEW DELHI, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and eight others were injured when a powerful blast occurred at an oil refinery in India's southern state of Karnataka on Wednesday, officials said.
The blast occurred around noon at the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd plant. The victim's body was recovered at the site. One person was in hospital with serious injuries, and the others suffered minor injuries.
The blaze was later brought under control. The exact cause was still under investigation.
The explosion shattered window panes and damaged walls in nearby houses. The blast was heard several kilometers away. ■
