ISLAMABAD, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani security forces killed three militants in an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan district of the country's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, security sources told Xinhua on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan, where security forces targeted militant hideouts in and around the town, said the sources.
A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the militants during the operation, according to the security sources.
The sources added that security forces also foiled an attempt by militants to intercept a truck carrying rations near the main market of Mir Ali area.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the security forces for the successful operation.
Sharif said operations against militant groups will continue until terrorism is completely eradicated from the country. ■
