SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's overseas direct investment grew for four successive quarters in the second quarter, driven by soaring investment in the information and communication industry, finance ministry data showed Tuesday.
Overseas investment through the purchase of foreign stocks and the establishment of foreign offices jumped 32.3 percent from a year earlier to 20.52 billion U.S. dollars in the April-June quarter, keeping an upward trend since the third quarter of 2025, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Overseas investment in the information and communication sector showed an explosive increase, skyrocketing 265.3 percent to 2.73 billion dollars.
The finance and insurance sector took the largest share of 10.48 billion dollars in overseas investment in the second quarter, up 33.4 percent from a year earlier.
Investment in the manufacturing and the scientific and technical services sectors rose in single digits, but investment in the overseas real estate industry retreated in single digits.
North America remained a top target of the Asian country's overseas direct investment, which advanced 50.3 percent to 9.19 billion dollars in the cited quarter.
Direct investment in Asia spiked 68.8 percent to 5.57 billion dollars, but those in Europe and Latin America declined to 2.98 billion dollars and 2.14 billion dollars each. ■
