SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Tuesday ordered a thorough probe into the recent landmine blast in the demilitarized zone (DMZ).
During a cabinet meeting, Lee called on the military authorities to "transparently uncover the truth through a swift and thorough investigation in close cooperation with the United Nations Command," saying that South Korea will take necessary measures depending on the outcome of the investigation.
The incident occurred on Sept. 21 near the military demarcation line, where three South Korean soldiers from the army's 25th division were injured while conducting a mission inside the southern side of the buffer zone dividing the two Koreas.
The South Korean military announced the preliminary results of its investigation Monday, concluding that there was a "very high possibility" that the explosion was caused by a landmine planted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) forces.
The military stated that it will take corresponding countermeasures if the blast is definitively traced back to a DPRK mine.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said Tuesday that its military and the United Nations Command conducted a joint on-site inspection of the blast area. ■
