JERUSALEM/BEIRUT, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Israeli troops shot and "neutralized" two people in southern Lebanon on Monday, the military said.
The military said in a statement that the two were in its so-called "security zone" in southern Lebanon near the border, where Israeli troops remain deployed despite a June ceasefire, and had allegedly approached soldiers.
The military did not identify them or specify whether they were killed or wounded, adding only that the incident was under review. No Israeli soldiers were wounded.
Meanwhile, Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported Israeli artillery shelling on Monday near multiple southern towns and villages, machine-gun fire near the border town of Hadatha, an explosion by Israeli forces in the border town of Aitaroun, and an Israeli airstrike in the south.
NNA also reported that an interceptor missile exploded over the border district of Qantara on Monday afternoon.
A Lebanese security source told Xinhua that the missile was launched from the Israeli side, causing a massive blast that echoed across the border area.
The developments came amid continued tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border despite a framework agreement signed by the two countries in late June. Israeli forces continue to occupy parts of southern Lebanon despite the U.S.-brokered ceasefire, while Lebanon has demanded a full Israeli withdrawal. ■
