SINGAPORE, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's manufactured products price index rose 4.4 percent month-on-month in August, accelerating from a 2.4 percent increase in July, its statistics department said on Tuesday.
The oil index increased 3.8 percent in August, following a 4.4 percent rise in the previous month, while the non-oil index rose 4.5 percent, up from 2.1 percent in July, the department said in a statement.
On a year-on-year basis, the overall index surged 40.1 percent in August, compared with a 35.4 percent rise in July.
The oil index jumped 48.2 percent year-on-year, while the non-oil index soared 38.9 percent, extending its gains in recent months.
The increases in the oil index on both a month-on-month and a year-on-year basis were mainly driven by higher prices of petroleum and petroleum products, against the backdrop of the conflict in the Middle East, said the department. ■
