ZAGREB, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Croatian government on Monday announced new fuel prices, raising the price of Eurosuper while lowering the price of diesel.
Eurosuper 95 will rise by 2 cents to 1.76 euros (about 2.01 U.S. dollars) per liter, while the price of Eurodiesel will drop by 5 cents to 1.86 euros (about 2.11 U.S. dollars) per liter. Blue diesel for farmers and fishermen will also drop and will cost 1.42 euros (about 1.62 U.S. dollars) per liter.
The new prices include government subsidies. Without them, they would be higher.
Under Croatia's fuel price system, the government sets temporary ceilings on retail prices, and stations cannot charge more than the limit. The caps are revised every week to follow changes in the global oil market, with the aim of protecting consumers and the wider economy from sudden price spikes.
Global oil prices have fluctuated in recent months amid the crisis in the Middle East, raising concerns over supply and pushing up energy costs worldwide.
The price of blue diesel in Croatia has almost doubled since the beginning of the year, putting additional pressure on farmers and fishermen. Rising fuel prices have also pushed up inflation in Croatia. According to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, annual inflation stood at 4.2 percent in August. Energy prices rose 17.6 percent year-on-year. ■
