SANAA, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi group said Monday that a Saudi airstrike hit a house in the southwestern province of Taiz, killing four people and wounding three others, as Saudi air attacks continued across Houthi-held areas of the country.
Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV reported that Saudi warplanes carried out an airstrike on a residential house in Al-Ma'afer district of Taiz province, killing three women and an elderly man and injuring three others.
It also said Saudi warplanes struck a school in Al-Ta'iziyah district of Taiz province for the third time, completely destroying what remained of the building. No casualties were immediately reported.
Farther north, Al-Masirah said Saudi aircraft carried out two airstrikes on Adh Dhahir district in the northern province of Saada, which borders Saudi Arabia and is the main stronghold of the Houthi group.
The channel also reported that Saudi forces shelled populated villages in northern areas of Razih district, also in Saada province, with artillery. It gave no immediate information on casualties.
There was no immediate comment from Saudi Arabia on the Houthi claims, which could not be independently verified.
Fighting between Yemeni government forces and the Houthi group has intensified across southwestern Yemen recently after the group seized the strategic port city of Mocha and Mayyun Island in the Bab al-Mandab Strait earlier this month.
Yemen's conflict began in late 2014 when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and much of northern Yemen, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government. ■
