YANGON, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology issued a depression warning on Monday afternoon, saying a well-marked low-pressure area over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining Mottama, as well as the coastal areas of Mon state and Tanintharyi region, had intensified into a depression.
The present state of the depression was coded as the red stage and could cross near the Gulf of Mottama, Myanmar, the warning said.
The depression is likely to move north to northwestwards over the next 48 hours and may further intensify into a deep depression. It may cross between the Yangon region and Mon state and continue to move north to northwestwards and cross Yangon, Bago and Magway Regions.
Rain or thundershowers are likely to be widespread in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay, Bago, Magway, Ayeyarwady and Tanintharyi regions, as well as Kayah, Kayin, Mon, Rakhine and southern Shan states, with heavy rainfall possible from Monday to Wednesday, it said. ■
