WASHINGTON, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- A Miguel Almiron brace fired Paraguay to a 2-0 victory over Bolivia in their international friendly on Sunday.
Paraguay took the lead in the 17th minute when Almiron fired in from close range after a headed pass from Mauricio Magalhaes.
Former Newcastle United winger Almiron doubled the advantage early in the second half, taking a touch to control Julio Enciso's pass before finishing clinically into the far corner.
Bolivia had several chances to score late in the game but was denied by a series of sharp saves from goalkeeper Gaston Olveira, including a penalty from Miguel Terceros.
Both teams are due to face other South American rivals later this week. Bolivia will confront Argentina in Cordoba on Wednesday and Paraguay will meet Colombia in New Jersey on Friday. ■
