YANGON, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- The low-pressure area forming in central Thailand and the strengthening southwest monsoon will lead to heavy rain, floods and landslides, as well as urban flooding in southern and central Myanmar from Sept. 27 to 29, The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Sunday, citing meteorologist U Win Naing.
Heavy rain is expected in Kayin state, Mon state, Tanintharyi region, eastern and southern Bago region, Yangon region, Ayeyarwady region, Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, Mandalay region, Magway region and southern Shan state during the period.
People living near mountains or rivers are advised to stay alert for flash floods and landslides. Urban flooding may also occur in Yangon, Bago and Ayeyarwady.
Squalls and high waves may occur in the Andaman Sea and coastal areas, and fishing and marine vessels are advised to closely monitor weather updates. ■
