TORONTO, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Forward Jonathan David scored in the first half as Canada secured a 1-0 friendly win over nine-man Chile on Saturday.
David, who is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid from Juventus, put his side ahead in the 12th minute with a close-range finish after Chile failed to deal with Jacob Shaffelburg's run and cross from the left wing.
Chile was reduced to 10 men in the 35th minute when Lucas Cepeda was shown a straight red card for a rash tackle on Richie Laryea.
Gabriel Suazo was then sent off early in the second half for bringing down Niko Sigur with a second bookable challenge.
The South American team was held to just 35 percent possession and managed only three shots on target for the night.
Earlier on Thursday, 17-year-old midfielder Gilberto Mora scored just after the hour mark to earn Mexico a 1-1 draw against Colombia. Forward Luis Suarez had opened the scoring for Colombia early in the first half. ■
