NAGOYA, Japan, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's Wang Zhiyi and Chen Yufei advanced to the women's singles semifinals at the 2026 Asian Games on Sunday, while both of China's mixed doubles pairs also secured semifinal berths.
World No. 2 Wang eased past Chinese Taipei's Lin Hsiang-Ti 21-7, 21-12 in the quarterfinals, while Chen came from a game down to beat India's Pusarla V. Sindhu 11-21, 21-18, 21-10.
"Winning the team title gave me a big boost in confidence going into the individual event," Wang said. She added that her goal was to challenge for the individual title but that she would focus on preparing for each match and fighting for every point.
Chen said the match was "more intense and closely contested" than the scoreline suggested. After dropping the opening game, she said she kept telling herself to hold on and fight for every point rather than give up.
South Korea's An Se-young, the women's singles champion at the Hangzhou Asian Games and Paris Olympics, also reached the semifinals with a 21-8, 21-9 win over Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon.
In mixed doubles, Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin opened China's quarterfinal campaign with a 2-0 victory over South Korea's Kim Jae-hyun and Jang Ha-jeong, while Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping beat India's Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto 2-1.
China's men's doubles pair Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang defeated Malaysia's Nur Izzuddin and Goh Sze Fei 2-0 to reach the semifinals, while women's doubles pair Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning beat Chinese Taipei's Hsieh Pei-shan and Hung En-Tzu 2-0 to advance to the last four.
The individual semifinals will be held Monday. ■
