TOKYO, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- A 25-year-old man was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly throwing his two daughters off the balcony of their sixth-floor apartment in Gifu Prefecture, central Japan, local media reported.
Police rushed to the scene after receiving a report before the incident and positioned themselves below the building in anticipation of an emergency. The officers caught both children, who were conscious when they were taken to hospital, according to public broadcaster NHK.
The report said police received an emergency call from the suspect's wife late Friday night.
The man is suspected of throwing his daughters, aged four and one, from the balcony of their sixth-floor apartment at around 4:20 a.m. local time on Saturday.
The suspect was arrested on the spot, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. ■
