JERUSALEM, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Israeli EuroCup basketball club Hapoel Jerusalem announced Friday that it has signed guard Lorenzo Brown, who has played in the NBA, the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), and the EuroLeague.
The 36-year-old American-Spanish has signed a one-season deal with Jerusalem. While the club did not disclose financial terms, Israeli media reports said he will earn around 850,000 U.S. dollars for the season.
Brown played college basketball at NC State before being selected 52nd overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2013 NBA Draft.
He played 107 NBA games over five seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, and Toronto Raptors.
In between, Brown played in China, joining the Zhejiang Golden Bulls for the 2016-17 CBA season. In 20 games, he averaged 24 points, 5.5 assists, and 7.5 rebounds.
In 2019, he returned to the CBA with the Guangzhou Loong Lions, appearing in eight games and averaging 25.3 points, 4.9 assists, and 5.4 rebounds.
Brown then moved to Europe, spending seven seasons with EuroLeague clubs including Red Star Belgrade, Fenerbahce, UNICS Kazan, Maccabi Tel Aviv (two seasons), Panathinaikos and Olimpia Milano.
In 211 EuroLeague games, Brown has averaged 11.4 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.7 rebounds.
In 2022, Brown played a major role in Spain's EuroBasket title win. In the final game, he recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists, helping Spain beat France 88-76.
"I am well aware of the Hapoel Jerusalem's glorious tradition, its strength, and the fans' unique passion," Brown said. "I understand the magnitude of the responsibility resting on my shoulders."
Jerusalem head coach Sasa Obradovic said Brown has proven top-level qualities, bringing vast experience, game understanding, and the ability to create opportunities for himself and his teammates. ■
