ANKARA, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Turkish security forces have detained 83 suspects in operations targeting the Islamic State (IS) across 28 provinces, the Interior Ministry said Friday.
The operations were conducted by provincial gendarmerie commands in coordination with the Gendarmerie General Command's Counter-Terrorism Department and local chief public prosecutor's offices, according to the ministry.
The suspects included alleged members of IS, individuals accused of providing financial support to the organization through affiliated persons and purported aid organizations, and people accused of conducting propaganda for the group through social media accounts, the ministry said.
It did not provide further details on the identities of the suspects or whether formal charges had been filed. The ministry said operations against IS activities and financial networks would continue.
Türkiye designated the IS as a terrorist organization in 2013 and has since faced repeated attacks claimed by or linked to the group. ■
