COLOMBO, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka has begun a program to recruit more than 120,000 people to the public service in 2026, Minister of Public Administration Chandana Abeyratne said Friday.
The recruitment will fill existing vacancies across several areas of the public sector, including education, health and agriculture, Abeyratne told reporters.
Around 30,000 teachers are expected to be recruited under the program. Separately, the recruitment of more than 1,500 Grama Niladhari, or village-level officials, has reached its final stage.
Abeyratne said further recruitment would be carried out to address vacancies in the health and agriculture sectors. The latest recruitment drive follows the intake of nearly 35,000 people into the public service in 2025, including graduates and other eligible youth. ■
