COLOMBO, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- A Mid-Autumn Festival cultural gala was held here on Thursday, ahead of the traditional Chinese festival, which falls on Friday this year.
At the gala, artists from China's Zhejiang Performing Arts Group presented vocal music, dance, traditional Chinese folk music and face-changing acrobatics, weaving in elements of Sri Lankan culture.
Addressing the event, Wei Huaxiang, Chinese ambassador to Sri Lanka, said that the Mid-Autumn Festival carries the Chinese cultural spirit of harmony and shared beauty, expressing hopes that the event can serve as an opportunity to further deepen cultural exchange and people-to-people connection between China and Sri Lanka.
Pradeep Saputhanthri, secretary to the Sri Lankan prime minister, said in his address that the values of harmony and reunion embodied in the Mid-Autumn Festival transcend borders and barriers of culture and language. In a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected and diverse, such values are particularly meaningful, he added. ■
