BUDAPEST, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Germany and Hungary will strengthen defence cooperation in areas including logistics, training and joint military exercises, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said here on Friday.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Hungarian Defence Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi following their talks, Pistorius said closer cooperation between Berlin and Budapest will enhance the defence capabilities of both countries and NATO as a whole.
Pistorius said the two countries have maintained reliable professional military cooperation in recent years and will build on this foundation to deepen their ties, adding that Germany is ready to serve as a reliable partner in transferring expertise related to German-made weapons systems.
Ruszin-Szendi said Hungary's security is based on a strong national defence force as well as cooperation.
He added that German-made equipment has played an important role in Hungary's military modernization, including helicopters, tanks and artillery systems. Hungary's heavy brigade capability offered to NATO could not have been developed without German assistance, he said.
Ruszin-Szendi also said that Pistorius is the first German defence minister to visit Hungary since 2020. ■
