TEHRAN, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Wednesday that six people, including one of its commanders and five "terrorists," were killed in a counter-terrorism operation in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan earlier in the day.
In statements published on its official news outlet Sepah News, the IRGC said its Quds Base's intelligence and security forces identified and dismantled a "terrorist" team that sought to carry out an assassination operation in Saravan County.
IRGC noted that in addition to the five slain "terrorists," a number of the team's members were arrested. Some amounts of weapons and ammunition were discovered at the "terrorist" team's hideout.
It said the team sought to carry out "terrorist" operations and cause insecurity in Sistan and Baluchestan province "in line with the schemes of the United States and Israel to cover up their failures." ■
