KAMPALA, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Uganda head coach Allan Otim said Thursday his team is well prepared for the 2026 Rugby Africa Sevens Series, which begins Friday in Kampala.
The hosts face Senegal in their opening Group B match before taking on Tunisia later the same day at Kyadondo Rugby Ground.
Otim told Xinhua that he had assembled a strong squad capable of representing Uganda well in the tournament.
"We need to take every match, starting with Senegal, like a final because our major target is to win it all and qualify for the 2027 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series," said Otim, who named his final 13-man squad on Thursday.
Experienced player Ian Munyani has been named captain, with Alex Aturinda serving as vice captain. The squad also includes Aaron Tukei, Denis Ttwau and Desire Ayera, who have represented Uganda in other international tournaments.
The eight-team Rugby Africa Sevens Series event also serves as a qualifier for the 2027 World Rugby Sevens Series, with the winner earning automatic qualification.
Uganda is in Group B alongside Zambia, Tunisia and Senegal, while Group A comprises Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana and Morocco. ■
