BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.22 percent to 3,888.37 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.34 percent lower at 13,316.97 points.
Turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled about 1.65 trillion yuan (about 244.5 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.78 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Wind power equipment and textile manufacturing led the gains, while precious metals, components, and energy metals sectors led the declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.68 percent to close at 3,288.95 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 2.52 percent lower at 1,918.87 points on Thursday. ■
