ISLAMABAD -- At least 16 terrorists were killed in separate security forces operations in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province, security officials said on Wednesday.

JAKARTA -- The death toll from the capsized Virgo Transport 8 in the Java Sea off South Kalimantan rose to 28 on Wednesday, with 107 people still missing, according to Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).

TOKYO -- The death toll rose to 10 on Wednesday, with four others still missing, after heavy rain from a large typhoon battered the Kanto region in eastern Japan and triggered landslides and flooding on Monday, local media reported.
Among the deaths, seven were confirmed in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo. The latest confirmed victim was a man in his 70s who had been reported missing after a landslide in Kamogawa City, according to public broadcaster NHK. (Japan-Typhoon Dujuan-Casualty)

MANILA -- Escalating conflict and strong El Nino are two main risks for developing Asia and the Pacific economies, according to a report released by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Wednesday.
The Asian Development Outlook (ADO) September 2026 forecasts that growth in developing Asia and the Pacific will moderate from 5.5 percent in 2025 to 5 percent this year before edging up to 5.1 percent in 2027. TOKYO -- A passenger aircraft operated by All Nippon Airways (ANA) made an emergency return to Naha Airport in Japan's southern island prefecture of Okinawa shortly after 10 p.m. local time on Wednesday, with passengers evacuated using emergency slides after the plane came to a stop on a taxiway, local media reported.
The aircraft had taken off from Naha Airport at around 9 p.m., bound for Saga Airport in Saga Prefecture, but turned back after a warning indicated that the engine oil temperature was too high, public broadcaster NHK reported. (Japan-Flight-Emergency Return) ■
