RIYADH, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Saudi-led coalition said on Thursday that six ballistic missiles launched by Yemen's Houthi group targeting the Saudi cities of Taif and Yanbu had been intercepted and destroyed.
The coalition's spokesperson Turki Al-Maliki said in posts on social media platform X that the coalition's air defenses thwarted an attempt to target Taif and Yanbu.
"The escalation and violations by the Houthi group would be dealt with firmly," he added.
The confrontation between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis has been escalating in recent weeks, with Saudi airstrikes targeting Houthi-held areas across Yemen and the group launching missiles and drones at targets deep into the kingdom. ■
