ACCRA, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal will be an achievement not only for the host nation but for the entire African continent, a senior Ghanaian sports official said.
Fati Lily Soale, chief director of Ghana's Ministry of Sports and Recreation, said the Games would show the world that Africa is ready to take its place at the center of the global sporting landscape and showcase its talent, culture, hospitality and sporting potential.
Speaking at an event aimed at instilling Olympic values in schoolchildren, Soale said Dakar 2026 also presents an opportunity for Ghana to inspire a new generation of athletes who could go on to represent the country and win medals on the international stage.
The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the first Olympic sporting event to be held in Africa, will take place from October 31 to November 13, bringing together around 2,700 athletes competing in 25 sports.
Ghana will send 13 athletes to compete across eight disciplines. ■
